Howdy howdy everyone! I hope that all of you had a wonderful holiday weekend with your friends and family. Things have continued to be busy with us – here’s a look at what we’ve been up to lately!
Jason had a week long retreat for our diocesan Young Disciples group. Clare and I tagged along for most of the week – we helped with the meal prep/setup/serving and hung out with the group throughout the day. Hotel living was a fun change and luckily not too challenging. It was a truly wonderful group of youth and I was very impressed by Adore Ministries who led the event. Then Clare and I left early that Friday and took a little road trip down to Austin to work on a project (more on that later) and luckily I survived the solo drive!
Also in the middle of June…I turned 29! Bring. It. On. I’m ready to make this last year of my 20’s a great one! On my actual Bday, Jason and I went out for a movie date to see “Inside Out” and absolutely loved it. We had a family Bday party at my parents house which was a blast. It’s so fun seeing Clare play with the toys I grew up using. My mom also found this purse that used to be mine and passed it on to Clare. She loves it, to say the least, as you can see by her modeling it at Aldi. My grandma, mom, myself, and Clare worked on a four generation hand photo which we’ve been meaning to try for a long time. A little difficult with a wiggly baby, but not bad! We also had a nice quiet Father’s Day celebration at home with a delicious meal including our favorite deep dish chocolate chip cookies for dessert.
Two weeks ago, Jason had a weekend retreat for the youth leaders helping with a big upcoming diocesan event. So, Clare and I made some fun plans which started with meeting for brunch with my longtime friend Laura and her daughter who I hadn’t seen in forever. We enjoyed some great coffee at Cafe Brazil and got to catch up on the last several years of life. Then we went to my parents house for the day and also got to spent some extra time with my older brother who was visiting before he moved. We had a pizza party and watched the classic “Fried Green Tomatoes” which I hadn’t seen in a LONG time. Plus we found out that Clare is very convincing when it comes to her uncles and sweets. Hide your cookies and donuts!
Us girls had a fun play date and lunch with my friend MP and her son. (and her sweet baby on the way!!) We dined on chicken salad sandwiches, sparkling pink lemonade, popcorn, and some decadent turtle cookies. The kids munched on chicken nuggets, had a blast playing, and got to splash around in the backyard together. It’s so fun seeing them grow up together!
We also went to a potluck dinner at St. Patrick’s Cathedral and supported their youth ministry program who were hosting a camp led by Totus Tuus from Oklahoma. They had a great group of youth in attendance and the leaders did an awesome job and were so sweet. And as you can imagine, Clare was the center of attention during the ladies break out groups.
Our plans for the 4th changed around – we checked out Light Up Arlington for a bit on Friday but didn’t end up staying for the show. Then on Saturday we had a nice day together at home, grilled, drank some Shiner, made homemade ice cream, and ended up getting to see a nearby fireworks show from our front yard! Clare was intrigued and excited by the fireworks at first but then got distracted by playing in the grass. And maybe she was a bit energetic from that ice cream…
Now we’re going into a busy work week for Jason with his big diocesan event coming up then going away for an event next week. I have some projects up my sleeve and always have my hands full with a very energetic (but not quite walking) 14 month old. Never a dull moment in our casa!
